Dr Manish Gupta is a Specialist upper-limb Orthopaedic Surgeon with 15+ years experience consulting and operating across North-West and Western Sydney. He specialises in shoulder and elbow conditions.

Dr Gupta was born and raised in Sydney, Australia and completed his medical education at The University of New South Wales in 1999 before completing the rigorous Australian Orthopaedics Association training program and being awarded the title of Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in 2010.

He then undertook significant additional, advanced, sub-specialised surgical training internationally at high-volume training institutes under the guidance of luminary upper-limb orthopaedic surgeons, including in the United States of America where he undertook microsurgery at Columbia University, New York. Dr Gupta was awarded the ‘Calvert Fellow’ training position in the United Kingdom at the prestigious Shoulder Unit at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, London. His dedicated concentration on the upper-limb region has allowed Dr Gupta to focus his surgical skills in order to improve outcomes for patients.

In addition to consulting and operating, Dr Gupta is also involved with mentoring and training medical students, trainee surgeons and allied health professionals. He has recently completed a tenure as the Director of Orthopaedic Training at Nepean Hospital. He is the secretary of the International Orthopaedic Trauma Teaching Group (OTC Asia-Pacific).

Personal Q&As

I strongly believe that life is in movement, and movement is life.  Our musculoskeletal health will keep us independent and free from pain; it will allow us to engage in our chosen professions, sports and pastimes. Being able to assist people to be at their best is extremely rewarding!

Getting sporting and active people back to peak condition after shoulder injuries and dislocations with keyhole surgery, or giving older people pain-free independence with joint replacement surgery to either shoulder or elbow are very fulfilling procedures.

My fellowship mentor in London taught me that state-of-the-art surgical skills were important; moreover equally important was a friendly disposition with true empathy for your patients. I value the trust my patients place in our interactions.

A lovely retiree suffering from Parkinson’s disease was losing his independence and could no longer play golf.  Not long after a shoulder replacement, using his walking stick he demonstrated his new golf swing in my clinic with great delight!

I am an avid sports fan and love cricket and football. I enjoy playing golf, reading and spending time with my beautiful wife and daughter.
